Case Study #1

Client Objective:

Assess the current environment and provide recommendations for improvement to the Client’s Supply Chain Management System as it relates to the areas of Reverse Logistics and Non-Commercial Units.

Northrop Grumman’s objective was to thoroughly document the Client’s current processes via a combination of interviews, onsite visitations and review of internal documentation.
 
Information gathered from these sources, enabled Northrop Grumman to determine how successful current operations were performing and if changes should be made to improve the processes. NG compared Client procedures to best of breed practices and introduced many recommendations that may serve as a constructive measure to improve the overall supply chain performance.

The transaction based SteelPartner program was developed as a business solution to track steel producer material at outside processor and warehouse locations.

Northrop Grumman’s Web-based OpenTrac ™ software is an enterprise resource planning solution that helps control the supply chain, and links communication between a business and its trading partners.  We also provided the client networking, systems, software support, security, engineering, data, training, management, integration, and comprehensive support services.

Fortune500 Company Client is a Fortune 500 company and major commodities producer.

Client Objective:

Enable market expansion of value added products for all Client plants by implementing a corporate wide solution that presents 'a common face' to both customers and processors. Specific requirements of the Supply Chain Management system were:

  • Develop and implement a standard set of EDI transactions.
  • Integrate with legacy manufacturing and financial systems at the various plants.
  • Support best business practices such as management by exception and auto payment for services.
  • Enable market expansion with current staffing levels.

Northrop Grumman developed a web based application to manage a portion of the Client’s business. The OpenTrac system has allowed the Client’s plants to quickly adapt to new markets. Client has realized significant cost savings, improved inventory control and customer service since implementation.

Client Objective:

Client was looking to develop and execute a strategy to update their systems architecture and:

Northrop Grumman’s objective was to analyze the current process to recommend specific infrastructure and service solutions tailored to the clients needs. Highlighted areas of improvement included:

  • Manage the supply chain with the OpenTrac Procurement ERP solution and integrated EDI capabilities.
  • Propose a new MRP Work Bench engine that integrates Master Scheduling, Production Planning and MRP functions.
  • Develop a new Data Warehouse scheme that is more integrated with source systems to provide reporting using scorecards and dashboards.
  • Disposition all data stored on the mainframe to be migrated, archived or purged and ultimately remove them from the system architecture.
